How 'Market Value at Start' & 'Market Value at End' is determined

A common misconception held by many a client and investor is the belief that the figures displayed for the Market Value at Start and Market Value at End should marry up when running a report for a common date - ie. the 'to' date on a report is the same as the 'from' date on the next. Unfortunately this isn't the case. In the 'from' scenario we are looking at what the portfolio's position was at the start of the business day (before the day's events have occurred) whereas in the 'to' scenario we are looking at the portfolio's position at the end of the business day (after the day's events had concluded).
