Comparing dates to introduce a condition

Hi everyone,

I am trying to work out a syntax that would bring an outcome in a document if 2 different fields have the same date:

<:let CFDSdate=$client.disclosure_statement_date.format(‘%d %B %Y’).lstrip(‘0’):>

<:let COPTINdate=$client.next_opt_in_date.format(‘%d %B %Y’).lstrip(‘0’):>

<:if CFDSdate==COPTINdate:>

WORKS

<:else:>

DOESN’T WORK

<:end:>

I thought this would work but it does not bring anything, any suggestion?

Cheers
